The SeyDesign Google Group is closing down

Monday 10th December 2018

Just a quick heads-up to say that the SeyDesign Google Group will be closing down at the end of 2018.

Basically it has become a magnet for would-be spammers and receives extremely little activity. We are moving things over to rw4all instead.

This probably only impacts a very tiny percentage of SeyDesign customers. But if you were a member of this old forum, you might want to login and read this post:!topic/nimblehost-seydesign-rapidweaver-addons/MDZfk1AlbkE

All seyDesign themes updated

Sunday 13th May 2018

All of the seyDesign RapidWeaver theme designs have been updated today. Changes in these free updates include:

  • The themes now use a local version of their own jQuery library, instead of using one served by Google
  • Updated jQuery to version 3.3.1
  • Updated Bootstrap to version 4.1.1
  • Dropped support for IE9, legacy versions of Opera and other older / unsupported web browsers
  • Theme version numbers are now only shown in the RapidWeaver Addons manager, to facilitate easier automatic updates in future
  • Deleted some surplus Git version tracking and Espresso hidden files in some themes, which are no longer needed
  • Updated Font Awesome Icons to version 5. Note the markup for many icons has changed in version 5, so you may need to modify your own code for items like social media buttons and navigation links. Font Awesome icons are now called from within the theme, instead of an external CDN.
  • All themes are now using the %navigation% macro instead of the depreciated %toolbar% macro
  • Removed calls to Google fonts. Many themes that were previously using Google Web Fonts now use the new RWFontKit v2 plugin instead (developed under license from ThemeFlood)
  • Removed type=“text/css” and type=“text/javascript” attributes to yield better results with the HTML5 validator
  • Some themes have got new preview images (shown in the RapidWeaver themes panel)
  • Other minor changes to the underlying source code in some themes

Why have these updates been published?
Several users have requested copies of the themes that are GDPR compliant. That is to mean that the theme has no links, calls or dependencies to external websites where IP addresses or other potential data could be collected by a third-party without their consent. It also means that in parts of the world where Google is blocked (or even if you just want to use the themes offline) everything will continue to function flawlessly.

Dexture, Flexture and Gravity
These three former Nimblehost themes currently sell in very low numbers and are suffering with menu navigation bugs. For now, they have been withdrawn from the website. We may take the decision to rewrite them at a later time.

Revised theme pricing
All the themes have had their prices reduced from $24.94 USD to $12.95 USD. We hope that this will revitalise some more interest in these theme designs. It also helps RapidWeaver users working on a tight budget. Paid support remains available for users needing extra support or theme modifications. Help is available with almost any aspect of your website design and deployment.

How do I get these updates?
Updates may show for you the next time you start RapidWeaver 7 or via the Waterfall plugin. If you are seeking to update from older versions of themes, you may need to get in contact with a copy of your seyDesign or Nimblehost invoice to request a coupon code for new copies. Anything purchased or updated from seyDesign after 1st August 2016 should be available to download from your secure Paddle account too.

Please note: no email support or updates will be available between Monday 4th June and Friday 15th June 2018 due to annual leave. We no longer provide tech support or updates via Facebook.

And that concludes all the theme updates (for now!)

Sunday 19th November 2017

This afternoon I have published updates to the following former-Nimblehost themes. The latest version number is shown in brackets:
- Atlas (2.0)
- Dexture (2.0)
- Flexture (2.0)
- Glide (4.0)
- Gravity (5.0)
- Phelix (4.0)
- Unity (10)

Visually I have tried not to change too much in these updated themes and in most cases a majority of the original style / colour variations remain intact. The main focus has been to modernise the codebase to fix various responsive behaviour and RapidWeaver issues.

In Dexture and Flexture, the ‘VIP’ component has been rewritten, so that it will remember font size and colour changes with tracking cookies, between website visits. This was something a number of people had requested.

All themes now include Bootstrap 4 and Font Awesome Icons. Themes with banners should also let you drag-and-drop your own banner image in, via the box in the RapidWeaver 7 Page Inspector.

Jonathan Head at Nimblehost was the first RapidWeaver developer to bring responsive themes to the marketplace. Unity was the theme that started it all. In the early days of responsive behaviour, a lot of adaptations were done using complicated Javascript. Nowadays (with significant enhancements in CSS, breakpoints and HTML5) Javascript is not the preferred method to target handheld devices with extra code. And indeed, many theme users were seeing problems with responsive behaviour not taking effect in RapidWeaver preview or on their newer smartphones or tablets.

This has meant a lot of work has been put into these themes, to rewrite large portions of the 'responsive behaviour’ code. It has not been easy. I estimate that each theme has taken about 6 - 8 hours to ‘repair’. Hence these final themes have taken a lot longer to update, than I would have liked. So thank you for your patience if you have been waiting!

As before, I am offering these updated themes as free updates to existing customers. They are beautiful theme designs, very solidly built and working brilliantly once again. And of these updated themes would be ideal to use in future projects. I have actually been using a couple myself, for some important client web projects in recent weeks.

I don’t think these updates will come-in via Sparkle / automatic updates in RapidWeaver. A lot has changed in these themes and RapidWeaver possibly can’t recognise them any more. So I instead invite you to contact me direct via email, Twitter or Facebook with previous receipts or download links. I’ll gladly issue you coupon codes to get the latest versions.

Parts of the seyDesign website are looking a little tired and neglected. I know that some of the theme demo sites are still out of date - showing older versions of the themes or plugins that are long obsolete. For now, I would encourage you to download the free demo versions of the themes, if you are interested in trying any yourself.

Once we have got the chaos of Black Friday / Cyber Monday out of the way, I am going to be rejuvenating the seyDesign website. This will involve reorganising some information, updating the user guides and making the website easier for us to keep updated.

Incidentally, everything on the seyDesign website is going to be included in our big Black Friday event, starting on Friday 24th November 2017. Keep an eye out on the RapidWeaver forums and RapidDealz for news about this event. There will be a particularly nice “perk” for recent seyDesign customers too!

Atlas theme updated to version 2

Sunday 19th November 2017

This major update has seen some quite substantial updates to the underlying source code of the theme, in an effort to make the theme work a lot better on different mobile devices and to fix some publishing problems that were occurring in RapidWeaver 7.

Bootstrap 4 and Font Awesome Icons 4.7.0 are now bundled with the theme.

Visually the theme looks and works much the same as before, with the exception that the navigation bar is no longer “radically” animated. This was found to be working less satisfactory on some new browsers and not entirely a sound UX design. The simplified menu bar in Atlas 2 works a lot better.

The demo site and free demo version for Atlas have both being updated this morning. I am providing Atlas 2 as a free update for all existing customers. Please see the website for details on how to obtain the update.

Qube 4 Released

Monday 3rd April 2017

Totally re-written from scratch. Loads of new style and colour settings. Valid HTML5 markup. Better responsive behaviour and mobile compatibility. Smaller codebase for faster, smoother loading webpages. Includes Bootstrap 4, Font Awesome 4.7 icons, jQuery, FreeStyle banners, responsive video, retina optimised images, dragged-and-dropped RW7 banners, RW-FontKit and other extras.

In terms of design, Qube is mostly the same as before; with the exception that the sidebar is now contained within the main content container (for improved content clarity). The footer is within a new container and positioned-up from the bottom of the page; to avoid browser status bars getting in the way.

Qube is 50% off until midnight 17th April 2017. No coupon code is required (the reduced price is shown).

Introducing the new AddEvent stack

Wednesday 15th March 2017

Use our AddEvent stack to generate downloadable .ics event files on-the-fly; so that website visitors can _easily_ and _conveniently_ add your upcoming events to their favourite calendar app.

Formally the ‘AddThisEvent’ stack, this new stack has been totally rewritten from scratch. It no longer has dependencies on outside services or complicated / expensive license stipulations. Now free to download and free to use in as many different personal or commercial projects that you want!

The simple user interface makes it a snap to setup new events. Other improvements include the ability to customise the timezone from what the web server is using, support for longer descriptions, the option to supply a location, plus the ability to attach URLs.

On your website, the visitor sees a simple button. Clicking the button generates and downloads the .ics file, which they can then click to open in their preferred calendar app.

AddEvent requires Stacks 3 and a decent web server with PHP 5.6 or greater. However the file extension of your page hosting the AddEvent stacks can remain as .html in the page inspector.

Don’t forget - if you find this stack useful or require support, please make a small contribution.

First blog post and an announcement about prices

Thursday 16th February 2017

This is the first blog post, on the new seyDesign blog. This blog is powered by Tumblr and embedded into the seyDesign website using the free MicroBlog stack from Stacks4Stacks. MicroBlog is a brilliant little stack that pulls your Tumblr blog RSS feed into a website, and converts the XML in HTML markup. Perfect to use if you have very modest blogging requirements.

We’ll be using this blog to post news of addon updates; plus any other useful tidbits of news, information or special offers that might appeal to you.

In other news, we’ve made some changes to the pricing on the website. Some themes have seen a small price reduction. So please get in contact if you have recently purchased (i.e in the past 10 days) and need a discretionary, partial refund.

US customers will continue to see themes and stacks listed for sale in USD. For our growing number of international buyers worldwide, prices may now get shown to you in one of the following currencies:

  • Pound Sterling (GBP)
  • Euro (EUR)
  • Ruble (RUB)
  • Australian Dollar (AUD)
  • Brazilian Real (BRL)
  • Canadian Dollar (CAD)
  • Swiss Franc (CHF)
  • Chinese Yuan (CNY)
  • Polish Zloty (PLN)
  • Swedish Krona (SEK)
  • South African Rand (ZAR)

The currency updates ‘live’ so you’re assured of seeing an honest price, with no exaggerated currency conversion applied. It makes our pricing more clearer and transparent - plus it may limit the risk of your bank slapping on an extra transaction fee!

EU customers will continue to have VAT included in each purchase and will receive a full VAT receipt by email. Since 1st January 2015, it has become a legal requirement for purchases of digital downloads to include the local amount of VAT. Make sure you are abiding by this law when shopping from other developers.

Naturally the cost of addons shown on the website (in non-USD currencies) is going to fluctuate slightly on a day-by-day basis. However the new system does ensure you can accurately see exactly what you are paying!

Over the next couple of weeks we will be rolling-out support for some additional currencies and other payment methods - including Apple Pay.
