PrivateEyes is an amazing, simple-to-use, yet very powerful tool that lets you keep content and clutter under wraps—not just to the viewer but in the source code as well. This allows for many possibilities, including keeping your content private, making page loads more efficient, simplifying small site design and much more.
Using the power of PHP, PrivateEyes only makes its content available on demand through special URLs, unlike JavaScript which merely hides content that is still readily available in the source code. By rendering content on demand you can keep prying eyes off data you don't want seen. Or you can leverage this power to make single-page, dynamic websites, efficient galleries and more...
Instructions
Note: PrivateEyes must be published to view its full functionality. You can use the "Preview Switch" to view hidden content in Preview mode only while drafting your hidden content.
Drag a PrivateEyes stack element onto your Stacks page.
In the settings panel, select the "Preview Switch" to allow viewing in Preview mode while drafting your content.
Into the "Show" drop zone, add the content you wish to hide.
Into the "Replace" drop zone, add the content you wish to show in place of the hidden content. (optional)
In the settings panel, select the "Use Replacement" switch. (optional)
In the settings panel, to "Show (s)" add the appropriate comma-separated keywords, letters and numbers you would like to use to expose your content.
In the settings panel, to "Hide (h)" add the appropriate comma-separated keywords, letters and numbers you would like to use to hide your content.
In the settings panel, to "Master (m)" add a keyword, letters and numbers you would like to use to show all content with the same master keyword. (optional)
In the settings panel, to "Path contains (p)" add a folder or path name you wish to use to show content if detected in the URL. (optional)
Type: "Submit form"
Drag a PrivateEyes stack element onto your Stacks page.
In the settings panel, choose "Submit form" from the Type menu.
In the settings panel, to "Form Label:" add a suitable label.
In the settings panel, to "Target Page:" click "Set Link:" and add a path, folder name or full URL to the destination page where your hidden content resides. If left blank, PrivateEyes assumes that the content is on the current page.
In the settings panel, select "Password" if you wish your input in the text field to be obscured.
In the settings panel, to "Button:" add a suitable submit button name.
In the settings panel, customize your button with some special classes and/or add an image to it.
Exposing hidden content
PrivateEyes reveals your hidden content with special PHP indicators in the URL, namely "?" and "&" along with the key you've defined in your settings.
For example, if your content is hidden on the page http://example.com/ and your "Show" key is "showme" then your content is exposed when you send a visitor to http://example.com/?showme with a link or menu button.
If you also wish to show content with the key "andthistoo", send your visitors to http://example.com/?showme&andthistoo with a link or menu button. Have a look at our Content on Demand page for tips on manually building such links and menus.
The same is true if you've set your content to hide when certain keys are present, except PrivateEyes will hide that content instead of showing it.
PrivateEyes can also detect folder names and paths in the URL. This comes in handy for those who want to build a single library of content and @import(()) that page into others. PrivateEyes can show content relevant to the page it's being imported into.
There is also a second mode to PrivateEyes, "Submit form", that can help you expose content with its special submission form. Visitors can enter keys into the form and upon submission be presented with the hidden content they seek. Have a look at our Keep it Private page to see this form in action.
